Prices for the best Romania Guided Tours

Before booking your favorite holiday, you need to consider several factors such as duration, departure date, inclusions, accommodation type and – the most important – costs.

The price for each tour is determined by these factors. First of all, the trip type – a private itinerary will always cost more than a regular itinerary because we offer the same high quality services for your group only.

Tailor made experiences depart on customer request while the itineraries with guaranteed departure run according to the schedule available on each tour page.

Short Breaks cost less than the complete 7-Days Vampire or Halloween Tour because they include less attractions and require less accommodation arrangements. However, you can still enjoy fun special events (such as our parties on Halloween). For some of our tours, we provide the option to accommodate in 3* or 5* hotels. The price will change according to your chosen quality of accommodation.

On average, 7-days tours cost around €1200, while 3-days short breaks are about €600. You can find specific information on the pages dedicated to each itinerary.

This cost is provided by aggregator Budget Your Trip based on how much travelers spend on three daily meals. Transportation costs in Romania

From the previously mentioned website, we also find out that travelers spend around 79 lei / person on local transportation. The exact amount can be different depending on whether you travel by bus or by taxi. Also, don’t forget that our itineraries include transfer between the attractions you will visit. Therefore, this cost only applies to you if you decide to wander off on your own in the cities we stop in (we don’t recommend it as you might not be able to return to your group on time). Alternatively, you might want to extend your stay and explore more highlights in Bucharest or in another city. In this case, you will require transportation.

Transportation between cities and towns in Romania costs an average of lei128. Naturally, prices vary by the length of the route, the type of transportation used, and the date.

Is it safe to visit Romania?

Romania is a generally safe country. According to the Global Terrorist Database (138/163 countries), essentially no terrorist attacks have occured here. Another relevant leaderboard is the Global Peace Index, which ranks Romania on position 22/163 countries. The GPI considers factors such as militarization, society and security, as well as domestic and and interest conflict.

The most important thing you should keep in mind is that crime rate is low in Romania. In fact, it is below the European average. What you will encounter, most likely, is corruption. You might find yourself in a situation where authorities propose a ‘mutually beneficial solution’. In this case, the best course of action is to refuse and insist on legal justification.

Need to know while traveling on Romania Guided Tours

  • Confirm your passport is valid for 6 months from when you think your trip will end. Don’t get stranded.
  • Get comprehensive travel insurance to cover you and your gear. Get insurance that’s right for you and covers your activities in the places you’ll go. Remember, regardless of how healthy and fit you are, if you can’t afford travel insurance, you can’t afford to travel.
  • Consider your physical and mental health. Get advice from your doctor if you’re unsure.
  • See your doctor or travel clinic 8 weeks before you go for a basic health check
  • Check if your medication is legal and available in the places you’re going. Take enough of your prescribed medicines to last the whole trip. Carry copies of your prescription and a letter from your doctor.
  • Tell your bank you’re traveling and check if your cards will work. Have several payment options.

Driving in Romania

Our itineraries include transfers between the included highlights. This means that you won’t need to drive yourself during the journey. We can provide a car, minibus or coach depending on the size of your group.

Destinations within cities can easily be reached by bus or taxi. If you are planning to visit multiple attractions, we recommend using a rental car. This way you won’t have to waste your time waiting for your bus or taxi to show up.

A few things you should consider when driving in Romania:

  • inside cities, traffic is usually very crowded
  • some drivers don’t respect the law; they perform maneuvers such as overtaking on a continuous line or doing an illegal u-turn the moment they realize they need to go back
  • pay attention at the surrounding traffic; an accident is never pleasant, even if it’s not your fault
  • do not respond if you are provoked by an aggressive driver
  • plan ahead and know where the parking lots are in advance as free parking spots are hard to find inside cities
  • outside cities, look out for carts an animals especially when you pass through villages

Pickpocketing

We are glad to let you know that muggings are very rare in Romania. You can walk safely through the streets of our cities (but make sure you avoid shady neighborhoods). However, you should look out for petty thieves – pickpockets. The inexperienced ones just grab your purse / bag and attempt to run away. Professional pickpockets take advantage of crowded places (buses, subway) and manage to cut your purse open and sneak away with your valuables before you can realize what happened.

The best course of action is to leave your valuables in the hotel safe when possible. Furthermore, you should only carry the essential items – that you know you will require – and leave everything else locked in your hotel room. You should always keep your bag / purse within eyesight since this discourages thieves.

One more thing you should be aware of are the sketchy individuals who offer to exchange your currency in the street. You should avoid these people because their only intent is to scam you. We recommend exchanging money either at a bank or at an exchange house (they usually have better rates).

According to Romanian laws:

  • Always carry photo ID – you should keep the original passport or ID card somewhere safe and carry photocopies with you
  • You are prohibited from taking photos of airports, military sites or other secure locations (this includes drones – be careful, as you might have a non-pleasant surprise if you accidentally fly a drone in military airspace)
  • Penalties for drug offences are severe. Depending on the seriousness of the crime, you can face up to 20 years in jail. Authorities are focusing more on finding the dealers rather than the users, but it’s always best to avoid getting in trouble

Travel Insurance

You should always get travel insurance when going abroad. This way, you are protected in case any unforeseen situations occur and you won’t have to suffer financially.

One example where travel insurance is extremely useful is healthcare. If you need to be treated in a Romanian hospital (or in any hospital outside your own country), you will most likely not receive free care or subsidized costs and the amount of money you need to pay for the medical services can get quite high. If you have a good travel insurance, your insurer will cover the costs for you.
